After school programs have a proven track record of boosting academic performance, reducing unsafe behavior, promoting physical health and providing a safe, structured environment for children of working parents.

Homework Help

Club members are encouraged to participate in Power Hour, an engaging homework help and tutoring program that encourages club members at every age to become self-directed learners. Staff support children in completing their homework in a fun environment that encourages independent learning and positive feelings about school accomplishments.

Power Hour lets kids and teens explore interests at their own pace and equip them with skills they’ll need to advance from kindergarten to 12th grade, graduate from high school on time, ready to succeed in college or a career.
We also offer programs centered around literacy, including our Book Club in partnership with the Sonoma County Library and Today's Readers, Tomorrow's Leaders which encourages our members to expand their reading potential.

STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering, Mathematics)

In a partnership with the Finley Foundation, club members are introduced to science, technology, engineering and math in a variety of projects on a weekly basis. Through this innovative program, club members build problem solving skills, discover how things work, explore engineering as a career option, and learn math and science while having fun. Activities include 3D printing, filmmaking, robotics, coding and more.

We provide one-on-one and small group tutoring sessions after Power Hour for club members who may be struggling in certain subjects or with particular concepts they are learning in school. Lead by our Education Director and Youth Coordinators, club members can receive the extra help they need in a variety of subjects to achieve academic success in their school work.

Creative Arts

Musical Masters

Despite the known benefits of having a musical education program, many schools have done away with their programs due to budget restrictions. The Boys & Girls Club of Greater Santa Rosa realizes the impact that early musical training can have on students’ lives and have partnered with volunteer music instructors to create Musical Masters. Musical Masters brings musical education to our club members in an instructional program in which club members learn to play the piano, ukulele or other musical instruments of their choice, at no extra cost to members.

Art Program

The Boys & Girls Club of Greater Santa Rosa is the place where kids can learn to paint, write, sing or draw. Our Art Program includes painting, crafts, drawing, drama, cooking, music and more. We know that kids grow so much when they have the opportunity to unleash their imagination and creativity. Our Art Program celebrates creativity, individuality, respect and diversity. Kids are free to learn and create through new artistic experiences and offer a creative outlet that kids crave and require for a balanced life.

Physical Activity

Physical activity is vital for a child’s development and lays the foundation for a healthy and active life. Experts recommend that youth participate in at least 60 minutes of physical activity each day. Our Athletic department has dedicated physical activity time during the school-year and summer and offer a variety of programs and activities to appeal to varied interests, as well as age specific activity options. Our members have the opportunity to learn and try new sports such as pickleball, indoor hockey or rock climbing on our 30' indoor climbing wall.

Life Skills

We want our Club Members to develop the capacity to engage in positive behaviors. We empower youth to nurture their own well-being, set personal goals and live successfully as self-sufficient adults. We focus on building self-esteem and decision-making skills to help members make well informed choices.
